Ph 100 Introduction to Philosophy
This course is designed to give a general introduction to philosophy majors and other interested students in the act of philosophizing. It is also designed to develop in the students the skills they will need to do well in their courses in philosophy: reading, writing, conducting research and taking oral exams. The course begins with the question, “What is philosophy?” followed by an overview of the history of philosophy. The students will then be given the opportunity to read selections of primary philosophical texts and discuss the insights of key figures from the history of philosophy. The course ends with a synthesis discussion.
